Abstract
Este artigo aborda o idadismo contra pessoas idosas como estruturação econômica, social, cultural, simbólica e política. Pressupõe-se que os estigmas, preconceitos e discriminações sobre a velhice e o envelhecimento se ancoram tanto nas crenças e representações adquiridas e transmitidas na interação social, como se articulam às relações econômicas e de poder entre classes, gêneros, raças. O enfoque metodológico se fundamenta na hermenêutica da profundidade com revisão integrativa sobre o idadismo. Os resultados mostram que o idadismo corresponde à estruturação da exclusão social das pessoas idosas, embora façam parte da “paisagem” da sociedade que envelhece e tenham um protagonismo diversificado conforme as situações. Em conclusão, o paradoxo do idadismo contra a pessoa idosa é de que a velhice parece um processo normal e ao mesmo tempo aparece como terror, estruturada em relações multidimensionais de exclusão como “lugar fora de lugar”, com elaborações e reelaborações na família e em outras instituições.
