Abstract
Notre-Dame du Nil (2012) de Scholastique Mukasonga raconte le quotidien du lycée de jeunes filles de Butare au Rwanda en 1973, et le roman se finit sur les violences génocidaires qui précédèrent le coup d’État de Juvénal Habyarimana. Le style réaliste de Mukasonga et les nombreuses invitations à lire ce roman comme un roman à clés permettent d’opposer son usage de la fiction, qui se veut transparent et révélateur des violences à l’œuvre, et celui des personnages comploteurs, qui véhiculent un discours déshumanisant à l’égard des Tutsi et conduisent aux violences visant les jeunes filles tutsi du lycée. Leur fable génocidaire, qui prend racine dans l’époque coloniale, donne à ce complot une dimension multiscalaire ancrée dans l’histoire coloniale du Rwanda.
