Com o envelhecimento populacional observa- se aumento do número de pessoas idosas que são hospitalizadas. Elsi- Brasil apontou que 75,3% dos idosos brasileiros dependem exclusivamente dos serviços prestados no Sistema Único de Saúde, sendo que 83,1% realizaram pelo menos uma consulta médica nos últimos 12 meses. Nesse período, foi identificado ainda 10,2% dos idosos foram hospitalizados uma ou mais vezes. OBJETIVO: Descrever as consequências do aumento do tempo de permanência de hospitalização de pacientes idosos. MÉTODOS: Revisão integrativa: Realizar uma revisão integrativa da literatura científica sobre hospitalização do idoso e seus impactos na saúde e no tempo de permanência. RESULTADOS: A permanência prolongada no ambiente hospitalar também está associada a diversos riscos e complicações para essa população específica. A partir disso, a revisão foi avaliada em 5 finalidades com base nas pesquisas até o ano de 2022. CONCLUSÃO: A revisão proposta fornece uma estrutura integrativa para avaliar os riscos de aumento do tempo de permanência na hospitalização de idosos.
