In this paper, a robust multivariable control method is proposed for a grid-forming (GFM) voltage source converter (VSC). The proposed control scheme includes a droop-based controller for regulating real power, and a servomechanism compensator to control voltage at point of common coupling (PCC). Unlike the conventional single-input single-output (SISO) voltage controller, the proposed control strategy employs a robust multi-input multi-output (MIMO) structure, and consequently, the performance of the GFM VSC is significantly improved against weak grid and load uncertainties. To verify the performance and robustness of the proposed controller, simulation case studies are carried out using MATLAB/Simulink.
