Abstract
This year’s report addresses Mexico’s activities at the twenty-seventh Conference of the Parties (COP-27) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, and COP-15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Montreal, Canada. It also provides information on actions related to the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) with respect to protection of the vaquita porpoise and the totoaba as well as the declaration of the Texcoco Lake as a site of international importance under the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Ramsar Convention). Among other developments, the ongoing dispute between the Mexican government and a mining company before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes and a citizen submission filed before the Commission for Environmental Cooperation with respect to the Tren Maya project is noted. Finally, the report this year discusses relevant Supreme Court decisions in Mexico regarding access to environmental justice and genetically modified organisms.
