Abstract
J. Hillis Miller n’aimait pas être réduit à un déconstructionniste, tout comme les autres membres de l’école dite de Yale, Harold Bloom, Paul de Man, Jacques Derrida, Geoffrey Hartman. Chaque critique ou théoricien était bien plus que cela, et chacun était distinct et reconnu comme tel. Miller, le dernier de ces amis à mourir, a succombé à la pandémie en février 2021. Cet article souhaite ici, en se souvenant de lui, aller au-delà du stéréotype de Miller et explorer son œuvre, notamment en ce qui concerne la lecture et la rhétorique, faire apparaître sa richesse, de la littérature à la crise climatique. En plus de fournir une analyse approfondie de On Literature (2002), cet article replace Miller dans un contexte plus large.
