Abstract
Le 22 janvier 1960, Jean Rouch organisait, dans l’enceinte du musée du Niger (aujourd’hui musée national Boubou Hama du Niger), l’installation d’un vase rituel (hampi), autel d’un culte de possession songhay-zarma. Le film qu’il réalise à cette occasion, intitulé Hampi. Le ciel est posé sur la terre, témoigne d’une démarche inédite, d’une forme d’appropriation rituelle d’un espace muséal. En inscrivant le film de Rouch dans l’histoire du musée du Niger, installé par l’Institut Français d’Afrique Noire (IFAN) à la fin de la période coloniale, et en interrogeant les connexions entre muséologie, cinéma et transes de possession, il s’agit de rendre compte d’une expérience que l’on pourrait qualifier de « musée-transe », en référence à la notion rouchienne de « ciné-transe ». La portée politique de la démarche de Rouch mérite également d’être soulignée. Révélée par la présence, à ses côtés, du réalisateur québécois Claude Jutra qui réalise alors un documentaire intitulé Le Niger, jeune république (1961), elle se traduit notamment par l’implication des autorités nigériennes dans le projet muséal. L’histoire conjointe du film Hampi et de l’installation du culte de possession au sein du musée du Niger permet ainsi de décrire les enjeux d’une expérience cinématographique et les aléas postcoloniaux, politiques et religieux, d’un culte muséal.
