Las grandes extensiones de tierra que contiene la Sabana de Bogotá están enmarcadas por el oriente con la cordillera Oriental con la Serranía de los Dientes, llamada Monserrate; estas zonas fueron habitadas por tribus indígenas de la familia Chibcha, quienes ubicaron en el territorio algunos lugares que servían como sitios de peregrinación. Dentro de estos lugares se ubica la actual localidad de Usme, caracterizada por contener grandes y diversas extensiones de agua que eran consideradas como espacios sagrados por los primeros habitantes, Sutagaos1. Una comunidad de la familia Chibcha que estaba fuera de la confederación Muisca2. La localidad de Usme, considerada como la segunda localidad más extensa de Bogotá, está dividida por siete Unidades de Planeamiento Zonal (UPZ) que contienen más de 120 barrios y siete veredas. En esta localidad se mezclan restos culturales de indígenas, actividades campesinas, actividades informales y culturas emergentes de ciudad, que se enfrentan al crecimiento de la ciudad capital (Ojeda & Franco, 2019).
