Abstract
This chapter explores financial statements. It looks into types of ratio analysis which is used to highlight underlying trends based on figures from the following areas: profitability, liquidity, and efficiency. The chapter notes the formula in calculating return on capital employed (ROCE) in line with profitability ratios, while the equation for liquidity ratio is focused on assets and liabilities. The chapter discusses the working capital cycle as well. After this, the chapter highlights the importance of care in terms of interpreting ratios. An individual ratio is difficult to analyse without comparison from last year's figures.
