Abstract
Özellikle Roma Dönemi ile birlikte büyük bir ilgiyle kamu ve özel yapıların dekorasyonunda kullanılan mozaik kaplamalar repertuvar açısından oldukça zengindir. Bu mozaiklerin büyük bir bölümünü mitolojik konulu tasarımlar oluşturur. Bunların içinde özellikle tanrı ve tanrıça personifikasyonlarının yanı sıra bazı alegorik temsillerde ön plana çıkmıştır. Alegori basitçe bir kavram ya da düşüncenin daha iyi anlaşılması amacıyla somutlaştırma ya da görselleştirme olarak düşünülebilir. Greko-Romen geleneğin mozaiklere yansıtılmasında özellikle ahlaki ve kişisel değerlerin oldukça ön planda tutulduğuna şahit oluruz. Bu bakış açısıyla Tryphe ve Bios gibi, rahat yaşam ve lüksü sembolize eden tasarımlar oldukça farklı ve çeşitlidir. Çalışmanın konusunu, bu örneklerden birini temsil eden ve bugün Kanada’nın Toronto şehrindeki Ontario Kraliyet Müzesi’nde sergilenen Tryphe ve Bios Mozaiği oluşturmaktadır. Suriye Emesa kökenli olduğu düşünülen ve yaklaşık İS 350-400 yıllarına tarihlenen mozaiğin detaylı tanımı yapılarak, ikonografik ve ikonolojik açıdan değerlendirilecektir
