Abstract
Cet article analyse les enchevêtrements entre art et engagement dans les scènes de rap africain en explorant la question (méconnue) des mobilités transnationales qui accompagnent les trajectoires de politisation des rappeurs. Il s’appuie sur l’analyse des biographies de trois rappeurs (du Gabon, du Sénégal et du Burkina Faso), qui s’affirment tous trois comme des artistes « engagés ». Il met au jour les influences et modalités d’action communes que ces rappeurs partagent, tout en démontrant qu’en fonction des contextes et des parcours individuels, ces références et influences communes conduisent à différents types d’engagements par la musique et à différentes expériences de la mobilité. Cet examen des mobilisations de rappeurs africains en mobilité contribue finalement à une compréhension plus large des rapports entre art et engagement, en éclairant la tension entre spécificités nationales et dimension « translocale » de ces mondes de l’art.
