Cet article examine la montée en puissance du mouvement Azov entre 2014 et 2021, cette formation ultra-nationaliste ayant été mise en avant à la fois pour son rôle au sein de l’appareil d’État en tant que régiment de la Garde nationale ukrainienne et pour son statut d’opposant politique. En partant d’une littérature comparative sur les relations entre un État et des mobilisations politico-militaire et en jouant sur différentes échelles d’analyses, nous avons l’intention d’interroger la manière dont le mouvement Azov a été lié à l’État ukrainien durant cette période. Nous soutenons que l’émergence du mouvement est le résultat d’une instrumentalisation mutuelle entre ce dernier et l’appareil d’État, dans la poursuite de leurs objectifs respectifs.
