Abstract
Abstract We are left with the chastening reflection that some of our predecessors were greater men than we are if width of interest and a higher level of culture are any guides. Perhaps they had more leisure and a better early education in an older civilization, and perhaps we can take a little comfort and excuse in the greater complexity of the medicine of our period, which, regrettably for most of us, makes it all-absorbing.
