La spiritualité est une composante essentielle de l’identité autochtone. Ainsi, dans une optique d’intégration des perspectives autochtones en éducation, on s’attend à ce qu’elle soit prise en compte au sein même des apprentissages et selon une approche holistique. Or, cette dimension essentielle de notre humanité est souvent incomprise et mise de côté, voire tabou au Québec et dans beaucoup de pays occidentaux. De ce fait se pose la question suivante : comment engager un processus de vérité et de réconciliation envers les Peuples autochtones si l’éducation occidentale éloigne les Allochtones du sens spirituel ? Aussi, la première étape serait de clarifier un tel concept, ce qui a été le cas d’une recherche doctorale dont le but était de développer une proposition éducative holistique visant la reconnexion du jeune à la Terre-Mère. Cet article présente une caractérisation du concept de spiritualité et les apports de sa prise en compte en éducation. À partir de deux cas au Québec traduisant l’inconfort au regard de la prise en compte de la spiritualité dans l’intégration des perspectives autochtones en éducation, l’analyse des causes attribuables à cet état mène au constat de la nécessité de décoloniser un tel concept. Nous finirons avec des avenues permettant de remédier à cet écueil afin de mieux répondre aux appels à l’action de la Commission de vérité et réconciliation (CVR) du Canada. Car, comme le rapport de cette Commission le souligne, « la guérison et la réconciliation ont une dimension spirituelle » (CVR, 2015, p. 243).
