Leluhur masyarakat Mandailing yang ada di desa Hutagodang telah memiliki pemahaman tentang rumah tumbuh yang berbasis falsafah lokal, seperti yang ditemukan di desa Singengu (penelitian sebelumnya). Hal ini menarik untuk diteliti seperti apa desain rumah tumbuh masyarakat tersebut ? Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui desain rumah tumbuh masyarakat Mandailing yang ada di desa Hutagodang, kabupaten Mandailing Natal, provinsi Sumatera Utara. Untuk menemukan jawaban pertanyaan penelitian, dilakukan metode studi kasus dengan analisa deduktif yang berpijak pada hasil temuan penelitian sebelumnya di desa Singengu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa desain rumah tumbuh masyarakat Mandailing di desa Hutagodang sama dengan desain rumah tumbuh yang ada di desa Singengu. Desain tersebut mengacu pada konsep Bincar-Bonom yang mengatur letak ruang-ruang dan pertumbuhan rumah sedemikian rupa sehingga selalu mengacu pada ruang Bincar-Bonom.
