Yet, What Nudism Exposes examines the rise of nudism in the northern climes of Canada and the way the movement sought to clothe itself in the respectable values and norms celebrated during a postwar period of domestic conformity and consensus. Mary-Ann Shantz’s well-researched study argues that the seemingly unconventional act of undressing as a group in front of the opposite sex reflected the contradictory assumptions that define the body, gender, and sexuality in postwar Canadian society and culture.
