Abstract Many techniques exist for the study of protein-ligand interactions, with each technique providing unique and/or complementary information. For example, calorimetric studies provide information relating to the energetics of protein-ligand interaction (Volume 1, Chapters 10 and 11), while X-ray diffraction techniques provide information on the molecular cordinates of atoms in the protein-ligand complex (see Chapter 1). Between these extremes lies a bewildering array of methods varying in technical sophistication, cost, and information content.
