Abstract
Abstract Let there be given a polynomial of degree at most n and some meaningful information about the kind of values it takes on a prescribed subset ε of the complex plane. What can we say about the size of its derivative? It will soon become clear that this question is closely related to the one considered in the two preceding chapters. The special case of the problem where ε is the unit circle is particularly interesting, and has received a good deal of attention. This is partly because it leads us in a natural way to the consideration of a similar question about trigonometric polynomials and entire functions of exponential type.
