Stress is a common risk factor for developing depression and anxiety; disorders seen disproportionately higher in females than males. However, rodent models of social stress have primarily focused on males, using male territorial aggression and dominance hierarchies to study social defeat. A novel stress paradigm, chronic non-discriminatory social defeat (NDSD) has been recently reported to produce comparable chronic stress effects on male and female mice. In this project, we sought to determine the neuroendocrine effects of acute NDSD on male and female wildtypes (WT) and mice with mutations to the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR KO).
