Abstract
Major depression (MD) is a disabling disorder that affects approximately 280 million of people worldwide. Although the specific mechanisms leading to this disorder are still unclear, some studies have shown disruptions of the inhibitory circuity in mice depression models, as well as in human studies of patients suffering from MD. Adverse experiences such as child abuse (CA) during critical periods of the brain development are considered predisposing factors for psychiatric disorders like MD. The thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN) is a GABAergic nucleus that acts as a gateway of information between the cortex and the thalamus, receiving inputs from both structures and projecting to the thalamus.
