This chapter presents an overview of results, detailed longitudinal data is referred to in order to illustrate the more tangible features therein. The 'potential reappropriation' perspective is particularly relevant to the case of home computers in that it underlines the relationship of the impact of an innovation to the context of use and highlights three of the computer's traits that distinguish it from virtually all other innovations. The variables selected for study included sociodemographic, media consumption, motivations and perceptions, technological antecedents, information sources, decision-making, personal use, interpersonal environment, impact, and perception of technology and society. The importance of the "potential reappropriation" of the innovation would appear to be verified in light of our findings; those respondents who eventually succeeded in integrating the computer into their daily lives did so as a result of an on-going process of exploration and reappraisal.
