Die Populationsentwicklung von Armeria maritima ssp. hornburgensis, einer endemischen Sippe, die nur bei Hornburg (Landkreis Mansfelder Land, Sachsen-Anhalt) vorkommt, wird über den Zeitraum der letzten 40 Jahre dokumentiert. Die Dynamik der Population wird anhand einer Kartierung der Einzelindividuen in den Jahren 1999 und 2000 dargestellt. Genetische Parameter der Population (Heterozygotiegrad, molekulare Varianz, Anteil polymorpher Loci) wurden mit der RAPD-Analyse, einer Art genetischem Fingerabdruck, bestimmt und mit anderen Populationen des Armeria maritima-Komplexes verglichen. Dabei zeigte sich, dass die Population durch eine vergleichsweise hohe genetische Variabilität gekennzeichnet ist. Bei einer Vergrößerung des potentiellen Habitates durch Pflegemaßnahmen besteht so die Chance auf eine anwachsende und dabei genetisch relativ variable Population. Maßnahmen zum Schutz der Population und zur Erweiterung ihres Lebensraumes wurden im Jahr 2000 bereits begonnen und werden ebenfalls im vorliegenden Beitrag vorgestellt.
