Abstract
Ce texte présente un parcours biographique d’Elizabeth Brandon (1913-2002), ethnologue et linguiste. D’origine juive-polonaise, Brandon (née Kaplan) s’installe au Texas, États-Unis, où elle mènera une carrière comme professeure de langues romanes à l’Université de Houston. En 1955, elle soutient à l’Université Laval une thèse sous la direction de Luc Lacourcière sur la tradition orale de la paroisse Vermilion en Louisiane. Bien qu’une vingtaine d’années se soient écoulées depuis la disparition d’Elizabeth Brandon, la mise à disposition récente d’un nouveau fonds déposé par son fils aux archives de l’Université de Louisiane à Lafayette nous donne l’occasion de redécouvrir sa contribution importante au domaine et d’en apprendre davantage sur sa vie personnelle et professionnelle.
