En deux décennies, l’œuvre d’Irène Némirovsky a acquis le statut de classique du xxe siècle. Mais c’est le destin tragique de la romancière et les conditions spectaculaires de sa redécouverte, plus que son renom, qui ont suscité l’intérêt de la recherche. Comment combiner l’empathie pour l’autrice de Suite française avec la distance critique exigée du chercheur ? Quelle part la connivence doit-elle occuper et quel rôle peut-elle jouer dans le « pacte biographique » ? La présente contribution interroge la nature ambiguë du travail biographique, dont l’objet fuyant doit néanmoins se façonner avec les outils de la recherche scientifique.
