Abstract
Fragoletta. Naples et Paris en 1799, d’Henri de Latouche, est considéré comme le roman fondateur du motif de l’androgyne au XIXe siècle. Le personnage éponyme projette une image protéiforme de la féminité – guerrière, libertine, mystérieuse – dans laquelle on peut voir une critique de la société d’Ancien Régime et du statut qu’elle assigne à la femme. « Œuvre singulièrement désunie », selon le mot de Michel Crouzet, Fragoletta tient du roman de formation, mais aussi du roman d’aventure et du roman historique, du roman sentimental et du roman noir. Cet article se propose de montrer comment Latouche détourne et subvertit les codes du roman de formation.
