Abstract
L’hypothèse formulée dans cet article est que l’on puisse lire La Mer à l’envers (2019) de Marie Darrieussecq comme un Bildungsroman dans lequel la romancière joue avec les topoï du genre. Deux parcours sont esquissés dans ce texte, qui pourraient faire l’objet d’un roman de formation : celui de Younès, jeune Nigérien sans papiers qui affronte une série de péripéties pour atteindre l’Angleterre, et celui de Rose, la protagoniste, dont la rencontre se révèle décisive pour réaliser le rêve de Younès. Alors qu’elle avait très peu d’ambitions au départ, Rose évolue dans son rapport avec sa famille, dans son travail, mais surtout elle prend conscience du rôle que chacun peut avoir au niveau global. L’originalité de Darrieussecq est de dessiner ces deux trajectoires, dont l’une pourrait être très typique et l’autre décidément atypique (femme, quarantenaire, avec un travail et une famille, Rose n’a rien du personnage traditionnel des Bildungsromane), et de privilégier finalement le parcours de formation d’une mère « à l’envers » enfin libérée du cadre intime qui a longtemps été destiné aux femmes.
