Abstract
L’étude examine la mise en place progressive de l’animation culturelle et artistique sur le campus universitaire de Bordeaux (France) entre 1968 et 1995. Différents domaines y contribuent : ciné-clubs, musique, théâtre. En revanche, celui des arts plastiques est nettement en retrait malgré des opportunités : présence décorative de plusieurs sculptures monumentales d’art contemporain, mise en place de la filière d’enseignement en arts plastiques. L’examen de la presse écrite, l’identification des acteurs engagés et la passation d’une douzaine d’entretiens permettent de voir comment les formes de modernisation de l’université sont tributaires d’échelles de référence singulières : entre espérances liées à l’ouverture de l’école des beaux-arts sur l’université et contraintes académiques propres au Vieux Continent, réalisation des potentialités artistiques à l’université pour la musique et le théâtre inspirée du quotidien des campus nord-américains.
