Abstract
Du 7 au 13 juillet 1929, plus de 6 000 infirmières venues du monde entier se réunirent à Montréal pour assister au sixième congrès du Conseil international des gardes-malades. Cet événement d’ampleur, encore peu étudié, fut pourtant central dans la construction de l’identité professionnelle des gardes-malades canadiennes-françaises. Ces dernières, qui s’étaient d’abord vues exclues de l’organisation de la manifestation, alors même qu’elles devaient en être in fine les principales hôtesses, se mobilisèrent en effet de manière inédite pour affirmer leur indignation et par là même l’unité linguistique et le poids politique de leur corps professionnel. C’est à cette occasion, et par le biais d’un vécu émotionnel partagé, que se fit réellement jour la communauté des gardes-malades canadiennes-françaises.
