Abstract
Les archives du ministère des Affaires étrangères conservent de Léon Bourgeois un fonds d’archives personnelles, depuis son décès survenu en 1925. Classés et inventoriés depuis 1971, ces papiers sont mis à la disposition des chercheurs dans la sous-série 29PAAP. Malgré un volume faible en comparaison de sa très riche carrière administrative, politique et diplomatique, d’une part, et de nombreuses lacunes, d’autre part, ce fonds permet de retracer les activités du récipiendaire du prix Nobel de la paix de 1920 pendant ses vingt dernières années, à partir de 1906, alors au sommet de sa vie publique. Divisés en trois parties principales (les questions de droit international de 1906 à 1914, la Grande Guerre et la Société des Nations), les papiers Léon Bourgeois constituent un ensemble homogène par la même tension qui les parcourt d’un bout à l’autre : les efforts constants d’un homme qui cherche à établir la paix par l’établissement d’un droit international et de ses institutions. Il est donc proposé de parcourir la richesse de cette source de premier plan pour les questions d’histoire du droit international et de la Société des Nations.
