Esta pesquisa buscou relacionar o processo de crescimento urbano dos distritos de Pecém e Taíba, no município de São Gonçalo do Amarante – Ceará, como o conceito de fordismo do Capítulo 3 do livro Metalolis, de autoria de François Ascher. Analisando o Plano Diretor, Lei de Parcelamento, Uso e Ocupação do Solo do município, bem como o histórico da industrialização na Região Metropolitana de Fortaleza -RMF, sobretudo na segunda metade do século XX, chegou-se à conclusão que o ordenamento urbano da RMF seguiu a tendência econômica fordista, mesmo que de forma tardia.
