À l’ère où le monolinguisme est désormais plus une exception qu’une norme, le rôle traditionnel de l’école axé uniquement sur l’enseignement d’une langue et culture dominante est aujourd’hui remis en cause par une partie importante de la communauté éducative et scientifique. Toutefois, embrasser pleinement la diversité linguistique et culturelle est, pour le système scolaire, une démarche complexe qui bouscule certaines traditions et conceptions de l’enseignement. Cet article explore plusieurs enjeux relatifs à l’implantation des approches qui valorisent la diversité linguistique et culturelle en contexte francophone minoritaire au Canada. Il met ainsi de l’avant la dualité prégnante entre le français et l’anglais, mais aussi la nécessité de la mise en oeuvre de communautés de pratiques afin de soutenir un engagement du personnel enseignant dans la mise en place de pratiques qui valorisent la diversité linguistique et culturelle. Nous argumentons aussi que les approches pédagogiques qui valorisent la diversité linguistique et culturelle représentent, pour le milieu éducatif en contexte minoritaire, une façon de repenser la francophonie de façon plus inclusive.
