Abstract
Des privilèges fiscaux considérables sont accordés aux organisations religieuses, toutes confessions confondues. Ces avantages étant supportés par l’ensemble des contribuables, il y a lieu de s’interroger sur les retombées sociales de ce financement étatique, surtout à l’heure où la neutralité de l’État en matière religieuse semble faire consensus au Canada. Par une analyse des déclarations de renseignements produites par les organismes religieux, l’auteur cherche à vérifier si les fonds publics investis en leur faveur peuvent s’expliquer ou se justifier par les services et bénéfices tangibles (non religieux) qu’ils offrent à la société. Il conclut qu’une réponse négative s’impose.
