Abstract
Dans l’Histoire de la Modernité architecturale, la chapelle de Ronchamp de Le Corbusier (1954) représente une date exceptionnelle, un moment clivant entre ses adeptes, les uns refusant ce qui était une remise en question de ses principes « novateurs » (épuration des volumes, rigueur architectonique, rationalité constructive), les autres acceptant cette « ouverture » vers une autre architecture moins dogmatique, retrouvant une tradition en tant qu’expressions vernaculaires associées à des sites différenciés. L’expression architecturale, même hors de toute ornementation, fut certainement l’un de ces enjeux : faire réapparaître la nature des matériaux sous des formes non-convenues. En ce sens, Ronchamp exprime une composition des surfaces tout à fait inédite entre la rudesse certaines formes et l’aplat d’autres à titre de paroi lisse.
