L’article propose l’esquisse de ce que pourrait être une histoire de la recherche en archivistique au Québec. Partant du constat que l’archivistique et la recherche y sont indéfectiblement liées, le texte identifie ce que l’auteure pense être les moments forts de la structuration de la discipline. Le premier de ces moments est la mise en place de la formation au sein de l’université dans les années 1980 accompagnée de la publication des deux premiers manuels. Le deuxième temps correspond à la publication d’un texte programmatique par les membres fondateurs du GIRA en 1988 suivi de peu par la tenue d’un colloque durant lequel les positions divergentes quant à l’objet et aux finalités de la discipline sont exprimées. Un troisième moment est celui du développement, au travers de thématiques communes et d’une forme de spécialisation de chacun, de la recherche proprement dite depuis les années 1990. Le texte se termine sur la présentation d’un nouveau champ, ouvert il y a une dizaine d’années : l’exploitation et l’archivistique critique.
