the ballads, and one of the printed sources on which Campbell drew.The exhibition also includes an area where visitors can listen to contemporary retellings of some of the stories, a short video in which Martin MacIntyre, a contemporary Gaelic poet, author, singer, and storyteller-and currently the Gaelic writer in residence at Edinburgh University-talks about the tradition and recites a story, and children from Bunsgoil Taobh na Pàirce, Edinburgh's Gaelic-medium primary school, talk about the importance of stories.Sgeul / Story provides an excellent overview of the work of John Francis Campbell of Islay and an introduction to the Gaelic storytelling tradition, but even those already very familiar with Campbell's work will take great pleasure from the priceless material on display, usually only available to those who visit the collections themselves.The exhibition is open until 20 April 2024.
