Abstract
Caligula de Camus et la théâtralisation du mythe de Dionysos « Sans un élément de cruauté à la base de tout spectacle, le théâtre n'est pas possible.» Antonin Artaud, Le théâtre et son double De nombreux critiques, dont James Arnold et Monique Crochet, ont noté les rapports entre le Caligula d'Albert Camus et le mythe de Dionysos, dieu de la folie et du théâtre.Ceci n'est pas étonnant, puisqu'avant la rédaction de Caligula en 1938 et le remaniement en 1941, Camus a beaucoup travaillé sur Nietzsche, notamment sur La naissance de la tragédie où Dionysos représente l'instinct primitif, le lien charnel avec la terre, l'ivresse et toutes les forces émanant de la nature.Camus y fait référence dans « Essai sur la musique » en 1931 ainsi que dans « Métaphysique chrétienne et néoplatonisme » en 1936 qu'il rédige en travaillant à son Diplôme d'Études Supérieures.Camus a aussi été influencé par Artaud qui, dans le « Le théâtre de la cruauté, second manifeste », préconise « le retour aux vieux Mythes primitifs » et recommande « que ces thèmes [soient]transportés directement sur le théâtre et matérialisés en mouvements, en expressions et en
