Abstract
Cet article porte sur l’exil du révérend Gibert, pasteur huguenot du Désert au xviiie siècle. Recherché par les autorités françaises, Gibert se rend en Angleterre en 1763 afin de demander au Bureau du Commerce et des Colonies anglais de lui accorder leur protection en lui confiant des terres situées dans les colonies américaines et qu’il exploitera via la production de soie et de vin. Grâce à leur soutien, il mène un groupe de huguenots réfugiés et fonde en 1764 la colonie de New Bordeaux dans l’arrière-pays de la Caroline du Sud. Cette étude aborde les démarches entreprises par Gibert pour négocier et préparer cet exil vers les colonies et porte sur les conditions matérielles de sa réalisation.
