Abstract
Abstract: Turbulent vortex development was investigated using laser Doppler velocimetry measurements for shrouded hydrokinetic turbines. The results showed that introducing a screen, to represent a tidal turbine, influenced the mean velocities, turbulence intensities, and integral time scales of the flow through a shroud. The comparison between the screen and no-screen configuration showed that the screen disrupts the formation of large-scale turbulent vortices, which can lead to increased turbulence production within the vicinity of neighbouring turbines. The results suggest that flow through screen causes a larger integral time scale.
