Molybdenum Disulfide Flakes as Platforms for the Photoconversion of 4-Nitrothiophenol
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) are of specific interest for a variety of applications when they present a semiconducting character. The band gap between the valence and the conducting band can be tuned and is dependent on the phase of the TMD flake, the number of layers, and how the flakes are chemically modified to impart new surface functionalities. We investigate the surface functionalization of molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) flakes with electron-acceptor 4-nitrothiophenol (NTP) and measure how the band gap of the flake is altered by the presence of this small organic molecule. The functionalized MoS 2 surface with NTP is investigated with confocal and tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy as well as with photoluminescence microscopy under 532 nm excitation. Photoconversion of NTP into dimercaptoazobenzene (DMAB) and aminothiophenol (ATP) is reported even under weak irradiation conditions, highlighting the potential of MoS 2 for its photocatalytic properties. The intensity and spectral changes of the photoluminescence of modified MoS 2 are indicative of the charge transfer character between MoS 2 and NTP.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
