Abstract
On March 12, 2020, John Hughes, Executive Director of The Craigdarroch Castle, located in Victoria, BC, Canada, participated in a lengthy board meeting. The meeting had been called to discuss the implications of the new coronavirus, and the outcome was the difficult decision to close The Craigdarroch Castle. The Dunsmuir family sold The Craigdarroch Castle in 1909, and it was privately owned. It also served as a college, a music conservatory, and offices for one of Victoria&s;s school boards. The Castle library was one of the first where visitors interacted with staff. The organisation of the visitor experience relied on physical interaction, and every point of the visitor experience was face to face. The recommendations had not been implemented, and the report findings were available for reference. The Castle had an advertising firm, and did most of its marketing in visitor centres, BC Ferries, hotels, and local tourism outlets.
