Abstract
L’économie évacue souvent de son domaine la portée des sentiments, des émotions, et de la dépendance au sein des relations humaines. Toutefois, dans La curée de Zola, les spéculations d’Aristide Saccard font bon usage des sentiments de sa femme Renée pour son beau-fils, Maxime Saccard. Au coeur de ce roman, flux monétaire et circulation matrimoniale soulignent à quel point le capitalisme en marche fait peu de cas des prohibitions symboliques. En laissant sa femme jouir du présent et de son amour incestueux, Aristide s’octroie le pouvoir de jouir de l’avenir en augmentant son capital. La curée nous offre à lire une spéculation toute privée, à l’intérieur de laquelle la représentation des femmes est associée à la monnaie, en tant qu’elles sont objet d’échange doté d’une valeur économique. Cet article saisit, dans ce roman, les modalités d’une économie de la jouissance qui s’articule autour d’un système de parenté et de légalité dévoyé qui ne craint pas d’absorber tout type d’échange (corps, biens inaliénables, désir interdit), ainsi que les modalités d’une mobilité des femmes qui ne se réduit pas à la circulation mondaine.
