Quantum Yield in Silicon Photomultipliersand the Temperature Dependance

Abstract
Incident particles and photons on semiconductor material with energies greater than 2 order of magnitude from the fundamental bandgap tend to produce more than one electron-hole pair referred to as quantum yield. Energy reconstruction of single event detectors such as SiPM requires information on the quantum yield which is measured in this study for the photons in the 140-450 nm wavelength range. Quantum yield for two generations of SiPMs manufactured by Hamamatsu and Fondazione Bruno Kessler has been measured by operating the devices at different biasing schemes where the current modeling can be simplified to extract the parameter of interest. The quantum yield is found to be 1.7 ± 0.15 at -110 °C for LXe applications. Moreover, the temperature dependence of the quantum yield is observed, and shows more than 25% increase over the temperature change of +100°C. This study introduces a transferable method for quantum yield measurement on various p-on-n SiPMs provided by different manufacturer and at different temperatures based on the experiment design.
