Abstract
Following Allan Blakeney's death from cancer in April 2011, many people across Canada thought that his qualities, and the political benefits that they brought, deserved public recognition.The idea of a conference in his memory germinated during a brief conversation at Blakeney's funeral between Roy Romanow, a former cabinet colleague, and Russell Isinger, a former student assistant.Since Blakeney enjoyed his time in academia-in particular his time spent with students-a tribute to him seemed to be fitting.Subsequently, a conference was organized and held on November 6-7, 2015, at the University of Saskatchewan; this volume was the final result of many conversations, reflections, and questions regarding Blakeney's legacy to the democratic state in Canada.
