Abstract
Cet article étudie le mouvement d’opposition que le Comité de solidarité Québec-Chili a organisé au Québec contre les investissements de la minière Noranda au Chili (1975-1980). Le pays andin était à l’époque dirigée par une dictature militaire brutale et répressive. Plusieurs groupes au Canada mobilisaient la défense des droits de la personne pour demander l’arrêt du partenariat d’affaires de l’entreprise canadienne avec le régime du général Augusto Pinochet. Cette stratégie n’était pas suffisante, selon le Comité Québec-Chili. Ses responsables inséraient plutôt leurs pratiques solidaires avec le Chili dans un cadre d’analyse anticapitaliste et anti-impérialiste. Si la campagne ne sembla pas avoir d’influence directe sur les dirigeants de la compagnie, le Comité Québec-Chili réussit néanmoins à transformer cette mobilisation en opportunité d’éducation politique et anticapitaliste dans les mouvements populaires et syndicaux du Québec.
