Kemampuan siswa dalam menyimak dan menulis adalah termasuk dalam kemampuan dasar dalam kegiatan pembelajaran di sekolah terutama dalam muatan pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Tujuan pada penelitian ini adalah untuk menelaah kemampuan menyimak dan menulis. Populasi pada penelitian ini merupakan siswa kelas IV A dan IV B di SDN 1 Kayuambon sedangkan sampelnya sebanyak 10 siswa pada uji coba terbatas dan pada uji luas sebanyak 20 siswa. Instrumen pada penelitian ini menggunakan tes. Hasil pada penelitian ini berdasarkan hasil dan pembahasannya dapat disimpulkan adanya pengaruh penggunaan bahan ajar materi laporan wawancara dengan menggunakan pendekatan open ended berbantuan video untuk meningkatkannya kemampuan menyimak dan menulis pada siswa kelas IV SD yang dapat dibuktikan oleh nilai Sig (2-tailed) yang hasilnya sebesar 0,000 < 0,05.
