Abstract
Cet article entreprend l’étude de L’amant des morts, écrit par Mathieu Riboulet, en se concentrant sur les thèmes du patriarcat et de la masculinité. Il explore la manière dont les violences patriarcales, telles que l’inceste et l’homophobie, perpétrées par les figures paternelles, organisent la vie de Jérôme, le personnage principal. L’article examine également comment le texte illustre des archétypes de la masculinité virile dans le portrait de Gilles, le père du jeune homme, et celui d’Axel, l’un de ses amants. Ces figures servent de référence pour caractériser les autres hommes du roman, et tout particulièrement Jérôme. La construction du désir, en tant qu’élément essentiel du patriarcat et de la masculinité, est abordée par le prisme du “consentement” du jeune homme à l’inceste et de son désir d’anéantissement qui en découle. Enfin, l’article met en exergue l’agentivité singulière de Jérôme qui, face aux violences et aux désirs du patriarcat, transforme la brutalité en dévotion pour les malades du sida. L’étude souligne ainsi l’originalité dont fait preuve Riboulet dans son traitement de l’agentivité du protagoniste, dont le mutisme et l’introspection limitée laissent place à des révélations d’ordre quasi mystique.
