Cet article aborde une question qui peut sembler anodine : comment bâtir un corpus cohérent de critiques vidéoludiques en prévision de leur analyse formelle ? À partir d’exemples de textes journalistiques publiés sur Super Castlevania IV (dans les magazines papier et sur le web), nous démontrons comment l’identification des critiques n’est pas une chose aisée. Pour tenter de mieux circonscrire la critique de jeu vidéo, nous faisons un tour d’horizon de textes universitaires l’abordant. Plus spécifiquement, nous avons sélectionné des articles et livres qui portent une attention particulière à l’étude des critiques au sein de la presse spécialisée. À la suite de la revue des textes, nous proposons une piste de solution pour l’élaboration d’un modèle de définition de la critique. Un tel modèle (à construire) servira éventuellement à mieux délimiter les frontières de la critique journalistique par rapport aux autres textes.
