Abstract
Bajo el lema «Conexiones globales. El futuro en nuestras manos», la 18.ª Conferencia Mundial de la Deafblind International (DbI) reunió en Ottawa (Canadá) a más de 600 participantes de todo el mundo para promover la colaboración y el intercambio de conocimientos entre los diferentes actores implicados en la atención a las personas con sordoceguera y también para discutir los desafíos y oportunidades a los que se enfrentan las personas con sordoceguera, sus familiares, profesionales... La conferencia incluyó una amplia variedad de actividades, entre las que se encontraban sesiones plenarias y paralelas, pósteres y exposiciones. Las sesiones plenarias abordaron temas como la legislación, la investigación, la educación, la crianza y la experiencia de las personas con sordoceguera y familiares. Como conclusión, es de suma importancia «conectarnos para actuar juntos», con el fin de lograr un impacto positivo tanto en las personas sordociegas y su entorno como en la sociedad, para así, entre otros objetivos, conseguir el reconocimiento de la sordoceguera como discapacidad con entidad propia, junto con el acceso igualitario a la educación de los niños con sordoceguera.
