Abstract
Entrepreneurs embody a promise for the future in territories in industrial crisis. We identify two types of entrepreneurs: continuity entrepreneurs, who promise industrial revival and disruptive entrepreneurs, who promise a green growth. Can these figures now repair what creative destruction and globalization have destroyed? We propose an analysis of the discourses around these entrepreneurial promises in the case of the Lorraine steel industry in Gandrange and Florange. We emphasize the highly ideological and indeterminate nature of the debate on industrialization and its promises for society, between deindustrialization, reindustrialization and the great environmental transition. This debate focuses on one man’s action, a providential figure and the promise remains a matter of personal belief.
