Présents à l’origine même du Bureau international catholique de l’enfance, en 1947, les spécialistes québécois de l’enfance en difficulté ont trouvé dans cet organisme à la fois un réseau de réflexions et d’expérimentations communes et une tribune où faire valoir les solutions mises en pratique au Québec. Dans cet article, nous faisons connaître les grands axes de la recherche effectuée plus particulièrement au sein de la Commission médicopédagogique et psychosociale ainsi que le rôle pivot de l’abbé Henri Bissonnier dans les années 1950 et 1960. Nous mettons aussi en lumière les liens qui existent à partir des années 1960 entre le BICE et le Conseil du Québec de l’enfance exceptionnelle, dont les travaux ont contribué à inspirer la Loi sur la protection de la jeunesse, votée en 1977.
